Good grief Russ, do you verify anything you put up here, or do you just slap up any old email that comes across your inbox. You really need to stop getting so up-in-arms over stupid stuff. A quick Google search completely debunked this story.

The phrase "In God We Trust" was moved to the edge of the coin; it's still there-- or it's supposed to be. There were an unknown number of coins printed which accidentally omitted the phrase. Those coins are now fetching about $50 online because of the printing error. So if you opted not to take one when offered to you, you're a fool. Not only would it net you $49, it would take it out of circulation by putting it in some collector's drawer.

I have not seen one, but have seen several pictures of them, and the pictures show "In God We Trust" is on the outer rim, but not on either face of the coin.

With all due respect, Mr. Gibb, this information is incorrect; "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unim" are edge-incused inscriptions with these new coins. They are there and they have not been removed. And there's no need for a boycott; starting with coins minted this year, on all future dollar coins "In God We Trust" appears on the obverse.
Remember what you once taught all your students about any story, whether spread on television or via chain e-mail, and that is that we should always ask, "who benefits?" This particular story benefits those who want to protray certain contigents of the government/society as being secular and unpatriotic. More specifically, it plays into popular fears and stokes popular outrages-- despite the fact that is simply not true.
As responsible citizens, we should correct these mis-statements of fact when we find them to ensure that they do not engender hatred or confirm prejudices in our fellow man; and any time someone sends us a chain e-mail, we should first do a quick google search to ascertain its veracity.
Incidentally: some 2007 coins as a result of a minting error _are_ missing the inscriptions; they are very rare and now collector's items.
