Classic Crap--If this doesn't wake up the public as to the alliance that has been fostered between J. Burl and his constituents I don't know what will. It's evidently the next logical step as J. Burl did all he could to sell out the D.P.S. by catering to the "wants", NOT "needs", of his new found friends. This simply verifies that all the posturing and butt-kissing paid off for J. Burl.

"Alliance?" I assume you mean with the Arab American community? But when you use words like "alliance," you make it sound like caucasians working with, representing and taking an interest in the Arab American community is something low-down and shady.
This is attitude is as much of the problem in Dearborn as anything J.B. Artis ever did.

So if anyone was wondering why Dr. Artis has destroyed the integrity of our system, bent over backward to cater to AAPAC and its members, packed our schools with AAPAC members and supporters, now you know why.
This wasnt butt kissing, this was a calculated payoff for our Superintendant, plain and simple!
So I wonder what Aimee and the rest of the AAPAC lackeys get for destroying our system when they are done?

Looks like Artis' pandering finally paid off. I suppose it is hard to discipline rogue administrators when your future depends on the spoils system.

To Dearbornistanian: I know you meant your comment tongue-in-cheek, but still, the irony of someone who marches angrily in the street whenever terrorists get their comeuppance, or angrily denounces those who criticize Fadlallah at school board meetings, telling someone ELSE that anger is bad for them...is just priceless.

I dont know if this was a quid pro quid from the beginning but if you think about Artis' abysmal record in the Dearborn Schools, it IS logical for him to come to the conclusion that after this disaster he might as well give up being a superintendent somewhere else. AAA (Access, AAPAC and Aimee) to the rescue.

Do you think that Artis will process food stamps to Imad and Majed? And do you think that he will provide Imad’s daughter with an ACCESS limo to take her to school? As he used and abused the DPS busses.

So, John Artis is going to make a butt load of money from our tax dollars at work "fostering a greater understanding of Arab Culture in the U.S. and in the Arab world." (ACCESS) He'll need the money to pay for the gas bill commuting from Grosse Pointe to Dearborn everyday.
We are Americans here in Dearborn, in the State of Michigan. Thanks to 30 years of multi-culturalism, you put a hyphen after your true allegiance and you receive millions in grants.
We took a citizenship oath and we had to renounce princes and potentates of other nations. I think it's time that ACCESS took that oath.

I’ve never seen a more ignorant or intolerant group than the people making comments about Dr. Artis’s new position with ACCESS. Why are you people so mad? You have had board members cater to your ignorance for years. It was about time we got a superintendent who worked hard for the east end and south end too. You are spoiled brats who want all the catering to yourself. You are all prejudice and are a horrible example to your children. Instead of teaching acceptance, you teach intolerance and hate. This country was not built on what you are spreading. You need to do better than that for this community and the children of this community. People are different and people in this community are diverse and have different needs. When the needs of the Arab community are met then people are catering to them and kissing their ass, I don’t think so. The community works hard to get their needs met. Stop spreading ignorance and hate and learn acceptance. We are all one race and that is the human race. Start acting like adults for goodness sake.

NO apologies for telling it like it is...the truth hurts that much more when you don't want to hear it or live life with a warped perception of reality. Throughout history groups or factions have pushed their own agenda through social or political figures. J. Burl was always for sale. Never have I seen more local pandering in recent times. The countrymen and soldiers of The United States of America have fought valiantly for freedom, choice, and democracy. It's a shame that so many newcomers to this country DEMAND to be catered to rather than to embrace this country of freedom as our forefathers did. J. Burl will champion the agenda of his constituents as he has been bought and paid for! Learn English, speak English, embrace each others' cultures while respecting that this IS The United States Of America. This is the great melting pot NOT a scaled down nation of islam.

Everyone Don Unis is not on the Board of Access anymore, he was thrown off because he didn't like what they were doing. Trust me, all Lebanese own East Dearborn and Dr. Artis. Hopefully, with this new superintendent we can turn East Dearborn schools around and start pushing out people who have jobs because of Artis.
By the way not all Muslims agree with each other. I don't agree with the Lebanese and their tactics in Dearborn. But, remember everybody came from somewhere and if they hold their ethnicity and the homeland close to them, there's nothing wrong with that. Don't be so fast to judge everyone in East Dearborn.

Oh come on! To Speading of Intolerance....who the hell do you think you are? Intolerance is what you are spreading. Intolerance and unacceptance is what you are doing when you stand (many of you don't even stand) at public meetings when the Pledge of Allegiance is said, not even bothering to mouth the words or place you hand over your heart. Just take a look at City Council meetings or the School Board meetings to see this happen all the time. You don't want to become and American or enrich yourself in our culture... you want to be separate but still leech off the freedoms and benefits we have here. You want to drive your BMW's and Mercedes and still accept free lunches in our schools. You refuse to raise an American Flag outside of your home. You are practicing intolerance when your refuse to learn the English language and only speak Arabic in our schools. What makes you think we should pander to what you think are your unique needs? You and your ilk refuse to jump into the American melting pot and insist on remaining separate from the culture all other ethnicities have rejouiced in since we bacame a nation. America welcomed you with open arms when you arrived at our borders claiming political assylum from your own country's unjust and dictitorial government. You looked for and received jobs, given the opportunity to open businesses and given favored tax status. You were gievn food stamps and housing assistance. Your were given all the civil protections all Americans enjoy. You receive all the city services we have paid for over the years. Your eat end schools were replaced with new state of the Art facilities...many more than the west ened. And those were provided by those past school boards and that you call "board members cater to your ignorance for years"...and long before JB Artis was ever around. Even before the new schools were built, members of the east end community, none of which were of your culture, participated in commmittes volunteering countless hours of time, to re-distribute student populations to west end schools that were under populated so as to ensure equal educational oppotutinities for your children. It was those like Amy Blackburn and Mary Lane, backed by AAPAC, that tried to block these attempts. So whoever you are, wake up and smell the coffee. It is your kind that is spoiled, and teach hate and intolerance. Or, is ignorance just too much bliss for you to attempt to see reality?

To "Spreading Acceptance" and "Westside Mom":
Please clarify your statements. Where is the hate and intolerance you speak of in the comments here? Where is the hate in the actions of those Dearborn citizens who are not Muslim? You speak of the board 'catering' to the West end, yet see where the new schools are. The new schools have been built where they are needed, and the West end citizens ALWAYS vote in approval of the bond issues that built those schools. That doesn't sound like the actions of people of hate or intolerance. It isn't the non-Muslim citizens who appear before the school board to raise angry voices over the actions of Muslims. It is the other way around. Which group, then, could be more properly said to be filled with hate and intolerance?
The comments here are based on the actions of public figures. Dr. Artis has pandered to the Muslim crowd, politically championed by AAPAC and Aimee Blackburn (and Mary Lane Ourchane before she didn't make it back on the Board). It is not hatred to note that pandering and object to it. It is not intolerance to note that rules and regulations in the DPS are not administered evenly across the board. You say you want to spread acceptance. How about the Muslim residents of Dearborn accepting the fact that they are now Americans and need to live like Americans and be loyal to America?
--by on 7/2/08 Lives: Dearborn
To 'spreading acceptance': Do I read you correctly? You don't deny that Artis has been pandering to the Muslim citizens, you just think that you DESERVE it because the West side had been pandered to before this.
If you look at the Dearborn schools, don't you see ALL the new schools on the East and South ends? Hasn't that been the situation for twenty years? Hasn't the West end of Dearborn voted their approval of all the bond issues that built those schools? The answer to all these questions is 'Yes.' Exactly where was the 'catering' to the West end?
You are correct to say that we are all one race - the human race. What we also all should be is American. Too many Muslims in town don't want to be American, they want to stay Lebanese or Yemeni. The justified anger that non-Muslims feel toward John Artis is based on his giving the Muslims everything they demanded, even when it exceeded the boundaries of how American public schools should be run.
Catering to special interest groups, especially religous special interest groups, must stop. If you want a school to be run along religous and ethnic lines, go join a private school.

I see I've caused quite a stir. If you people are as supportive of the east and south ends as you say you are then why does McCullough/Unis have two names? The only reason you probably backed the building of new schools in the east and south ends is to avoid having them bused to your areas. And to WHAT DID YOU SAY, how is serving halal food in our schools or giving Muslim students the day off on the Eid exceeding the boundaries of how American public schools should be run? How should American public schools be run??? The Muslims in this town are as American as anyone else and they want to be this way. It's comments like yours that push Muslim people away. Instead of embracing the differences they bring to our schools you want them to abandon their culture and religion, otherwise they are not being American. Please define what American is and while your at it define how American public schools should be run. In this town we need to teach our children to love each other regardless of their differences and that is what Dr. Artis did. I will miss him at our schools. It is a great loss to our district and a big bonus for ACCESS. Congratulations Dr. Artis and good luck Dearborn Public Schools.

Come one, come all, to the DPS free-for-all....forget adopting Americanism....forget about even attempting to fake it....you shall be catered to by civil rights activists and the like....but...with civil rights come civil responsibilities....quit hiding behind your veils and embrace the country OUR forefathers fought for....the very country that is fighting YOUR wars in YOUR homeland that you fled because it is so intolerable....quit insulting EVERY TRUE, RED BLOODED AMERICAN by spitting in our face while flaunting your religion and ethnicism....political correctness needs to stop catering to you and your special wants and needs. You laugh in the face of democracy and for what these United States Of America stand and fight for on a daily basis. Do as you may in your homes and private lives but at least respect the millions of TRUE AMERICANS that have given their life for you to come to this great country. ENOUGH ALREADY!!

Hey, SPREADING ACCEPTANCE,
You are really a piece of work. The people of the West end voted to build the new schools where they were needed, even though their own children didn't benefit from the money being spent. YOU now want to twist that around so you can pretend it is bigotry. That is too much of a stretch for any logical person. Are you logical? The fact is, despite what you claim, that many Muslims in this town refuse to become American. Consider that Ramadan is celebrated big-time in some of our schools, while Christmas is not allowed to be mentioned. Consider that we have blessings from Allah on message boards in some of our schools. Consider that we have Hezbollah supporters throughout our community, even running Fordson High School, when Hezbollah is currently supplying training and weapons to terrorists in Iraq so they can kill American soldiers. Read that again. Hezbollah is killing American soldiers. That is happening today, right now, and the Lebanese faction in our town cheers our enemy by the thousands. Anyone who cheers Hezbollah is not American.
Try this on for size, and see if you can spread acceptance of this basic American ideal in the Muslim community: To be American, and to say you believe in American freedom doesn't just mean you get to march into the School Board meeting room and shout about YOUR rights, it means you also believe in the the OTHER person's rights. If you think you have the right to eat halal food, and you have the right to force your daughters to wear scarves and veils in school, then others have the right to wear their religion on their sleeves as well, such as Trey Hancock, the wrestling coach. Until you can embrace the fact that other people have rights, too, then don't waste my time claiming you are American.

Spreading Acceptance,
To answer your questions and a few other comments:
"If you people are as supportive of the east and south ends as you say you are then why does McCullough/Unis have two names?"
Unis' name was added as a direct result of bullying and threats by local Arab leaders.
"How is serving halal food in our schools or giving Muslim students the day off on the Eid exceeding the boundaries of how American public schools should be run?"
In the case of Eid, it is a practical consideration as most Muslim students would be absent and the schools would lose state funding. The case of Halal food is different, as extra taxpayer money is spent, and that expense is to pay for a specific religious concession, which is unconstitutional. The halal food issue also demostrates how unaccomodating and intolerant Islam is to the world around it.
"The only reason you probably backed the building of new schools in the east and south ends is to avoid having them bused to your areas."
I voted for it because it served a practical purpose and was good for the community. Good schools, wherever they are located benefit us all. Speaking of busing, and by extension school of choice, I find it interesting that within our local elementary school, which has a sizeable population of Muslim students, has near zero parental involvement by those student's parents on any level. That includes the PTA, school fund raisers, in fact almost any activity that needs volunteer input.
"The Muslims in this town are as American as anyone else and they want to be this way."
That depends on what you mean by "American as anyone else". Are the Muslims in this town, at least the those who have become citizens or who are here legally, and are committing immigration, welfare, and mortgage fraud, and supporting terrorism practicing American values?
"It's comments like yours that push Muslim people away."
You are just playing the victim card.
In reality almost any discussion or criticism of Muslim activity in Dearborn is most often used as a weapon by the Muslim community to distort any facts, any truth, or any reasonable discussion of differences.
"Instead of embracing the differences they bring to our schools you want them to abandon their culture and religion, otherwise they are not being American"
Please show factual examples of how this is being done. Again you play the victim.
The real problem with most of us who live and practice American values, is that we are naturally and reasonably uncomfortable with the assumption and demands of many Muslims that American culture must accomodate Islam, even if those accomodations supercede and conflict with American values, tolerance, rights, or laws.
"Please define what American is and while your at it define how American public schools should be run?"
Is that a rhetorical question? What are your own definitions?
It is comments like yours that reflect an attitude and arrogance in the Muslim community that make it impossible to come to any understanding of how we can live together in a reasonable, respectful, and American way.

Hey PacMan, The Jewish community in West Bloomfield serve only Kosher meat in their schools. They also have Jewish holidays off like Yom Kippur for example. Are they also playing victims and are they also unamerican? Or are you going to find some sick reason for justifying them and not us. Just wondering.
--by on 8/16/08 Lives: Dearborn
To 'I agree with spreading peace and acceptance'
Your response is confusing for several reasons.
First, I made repeated calls to the West Bloomfield school district and could not confirm your claim that only kosher meat is served in the school district.
Second, as for my comments about the holidays, I will clarify that I think it is reasonable in most cases to give certain holidays off. I apologize if that wasn't clear in my earlier post. For example,in the case of Eid, it would be reasonable for the Muslim community to get the dates correct before the school calender is determined.
Finally, given the racial overtones of your post and lack of factual accuracy, I wonder if you would not answer your own questions honestly.
