What are friends for ?

May 25, 2008

Though no longer a resident of Dearborn, I continue to feel a certain kinship for that special place. You see,Dearborn was my hometown and Russ Gibb was my pal growing up. We shared many adolescent adventures together. In the ensuing years, Russellbob (that's what I call him) and I though I now live in San Francisco, have managed to maintain long-distance contact with one another. Russellbob was a groomsman in my wedding. Though we may have differing views on certain delicate issues (read political), I continue to respect his integrity and stubbornness in mounting his horse and riding off in all directions in support of his views (wrong though they often may be). Russellbob and I recently had occasion to renew our friendship and it was he who made my return to the old hometown one of the memorable moments in my life. I don't always agree with him but I continue to love him.

Jim Dunbar is being modest. He must be losing it in his old age. Jim Dunbar is revered in the Bay Area as one of the GREAT radio and television personality's. KGO San Fransisco. He is in the radio hall of fame . Plus has received national recognition for his charitable good works. Yes, he is a politically correct liberal , but I am proud to call Jim Dunbar my friend.

Mr. Dunbar I would have to agree with you. However
what Russ fails to realize is that he is creating so much hatred in this community that I would hate for him to have bad blood on his hands. As we have the right to agree to disagree we dont have the right to create so much hatred that children become affected in the process. I dont know if Russ is aware of what is going on in the schools mainly Fordson he needs to inform himself of all stories on both sides and help bridge some solutions since he has opened himself up to a public venue. So please help because I dont think people realize how out of control things are getting here and my gut tells me that it is not going to be a good thing.I have this big sinking feeling that will not go away.
Thanks Dearborn

Mr. Dunbar

Russ doesn’t create any hatred; in fact he brought the hidden issues to the surface. His web is open to everyone so anyone with different opinion can present themselves too. I believe that Russ should keep up the good job, and bring the positive changes to Dearborn.

Russ "creating hatred" in Dearborn. Poppycock. The big thing that Russ has done for Dearborn is to bring the truth about Dearborn out into the light of day.

To 'Dearborn':

It isn't apparent to me that Russ Gibb creates any hatred in Dearborn. That isn't to say that hatred doesn't exist here. Take Fordson High School and the Hezbollah-loving principal for example: after many, many examples of supporting Islam in his public school, he has the audacity to fire a 35-year coach because he wouldn't keep a father away from his son's matches. The reason? The father is a Christian minister and the principal wants to "separate church and state." That is an example of religious hatred. Russ had nothing to with it, except provide a venue which can shed a little light of day on the situation.

The Russ Gibb site doesn't "create hatred". This site gives people an opportunity to discuss local issues. Problems can't be solved if they can't be named or addressed.

Russ's site is NOT "open to everyone." If he chooses not to post your comments, there's no recourse. As the site owner, of course, he has that right, but let's not kid ourselves tht this is a totally open forum. It's not.

--by THE LOCAL LIBERAL on 5/28/08   Lives: Detroit area

Russ does maintain control, Liberal, so in that sense this forum isn't "totally open." I submit to you, however, that Russ has shown a very, ahem, 'liberal' hand in allowing many divergent points of view to be expressed. For example, I have seen many expressions of support for the Fordson principal criticised above. I have even seen some comments of support for John Artis appear. Russ doesn't have to agree with the comment to post it.

Question, Local Liberal, is there a more open forum in Dearborn? I haven't seen it. As for the original charge against him, I agree with the above writers that Russ does not create hatred.

I remember your talking about Jim Dunbar and I also remember your night time live radio talk show many years ago (national I believe). Wasn't it called Night Call or something like that. Glad to hear you had a chance to reconnect.

BTW, I think everyone is a little bit too thin skinned these day and seem to forget that we are all part of the human race. Honest and open discourse is the only way to settle problems.

God Bless.
