Education at Fordson ?

July 19, 2007

Russ,

what is going on in education? our tax dollars at work ? It says that this is "after school". But what are students doing after school in a room that may or may not, be supervised ?

I went to youtube and searched Fordson HS and found this little gem. Included is a boy awaking from a nap, students watching Divorce Court, drawing on the balckboard, making shadow puppets, and surfing the web. i could be wrong of course but I think one of the young men in the film was actually the subsitute teacher (I think the person in the yellow T-shirt...no dress code for sub teachers???)! I imagine this might be an indication of the efficiency by which the school is run by its administrators.

Out of curiosity, if the guy in the yellow shirt is a sub, how much was the sub paid for his day of educating the students at Fordson?

WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL HERE?

Clearly they were supervised. It WAS after school because Divorce court is on after school hours on the cable system DPS subscribes to.

My question for the Dearborn Taxpayer is what would you rather these students be doing? Wondering the streets aimlessly or hanging around school in a supervised classroom having some fun? Just what was anyone doing wrong here?

I agree that there are a lot of abuses in the DPS but this posting was just frivolous! These kids are doing nothing wrong and interestingly, I didn’t hear as much as one vulgar word spoken. I would say this video speaks POSATIVELY of Fordson students and the teacher who was in the class room after hours giving these kids somewhere to safely surf the net, do homework or even watch Divorce Court. That picture of Deljudas on the shirt was pretty hilarious!

Some of you people out here really need to get a life!

Subs are paid $90 per day, regardless of what they wear or know.

The movie has to be a fake. The students are speaking English.

From what I understand, that would be considered a very productive class at Fordson these days.

The Press and Guide isn't reporting on this just as they haven't ever reported on many of the serious crimes that have gone on in this city for many, many years. Local 4 News did a special report on all of the crimes that had been committed over a one year span at the Fairlane movie theater and I was appalled that our local paper had not been reporting on it. If they had been reporting on it, our police department would have had a lot more pressure to do a better job preventing it. The Press and Guide does this community a disservice by not reporting on many of this cities problems. They need much better investigative reporting. I suppose they are waiting for the larger papers to report on this first. Once everyone in the community already knows about this, and rumors are swirling, they will finally do a brief piece on it. Sad.

Wow you all are stupid. The person in the yellow shirt is a student. If you actually listen to what they are talking about, the boy is expressing his love for hios religion. He states that on his headphones he is listening to the Quran. They talk about The One Club, which is an Islamic Club. That shows they are involved in school. And everyone has fallen asleep in school at some point. Maybe he\'s tired from studying or working late to help support his family. And the student at the beginning is actually doing work. If you all weren\'t so oblivious you\'d also realize that the chalkboard says Mr. Roberts. And what\'s wrong with divorce court? These kids might have to face this one day. And are the students really doing anything really wrong? Shouldn\'t you be happy that they are at least in school and not out doing other things? You people over analyze things and make a mountain out of a mole hill.

To speak in perfect FHS slang:

Peace Bro.

To Looking to Move Out of Dearborn:

You are so right. The Press and Guide isn't telling us the truth about Dearborn. They hide the facts for fear of retribution. A former Dearborn police chief was quoted, "my wife and I do not go to Fairlane becasue it is too dangerous." Yes, the Press and Guide does this community a disservice by not reporting the truth. . . . until they are forced to. Sad.

To the flight crew here heading out of town... You have been programmed by the media into thinking bad news is the only news. From the War to most everything else, if it isn't blown up, smashed up, bleeding, or corrupt it doesn't make the news.

What is wrong with a local paper wanting to focus on the good things happening? What is wrong with P&G focusing on promoting the community?

I love the conspiracy theory talk. Hiding fact and the truth because they fear retribution. Let me guess, in your mind they are hiding UFO's in city hall as well because the facts and truth is so secret. Most of these facts and truths are probably rumors or based on hearsay, the good ol' Dearborn Grapevine.

The readers of this website have been programmed like Pavlov Dogs... bad post jump up and down, good post sit still. Look at the previous posts. Generally anything good is left alone with a complimentary post or two. Put something up about the schools or city hall that is bad and everyone flips a lid putting down everyone and everything in the city.

On to the next story... go jump up and down. Bad Story, Good Story, Bad Bad BAd.... OK rest bobo.

Well it comes as no suprise that respect to the national colors are not respected as it hangs from the ceiling. The response I expect is that at least they have the flag hanging so what if its being disrespected, at least its not a flag that would dare upset someone.

Wasting time in school is not unique to Fordson. My kids went to DHS and they spent more time watching worthless tv than I care to remember. Let's not pick on FHS. They are all quilty of this.

I looked at these videos and wonder at all of the comments about the schools. But the bigger questions is WHERE ARE THE PARENTS??? If I was the parents of these children I would be ashamed that I raised a child with so little respect. I feel sorry for the teachers that have to have large class sizes with such disrespectful children. Parents are the key to well behaved children!!!!!!
