Mr. Gibb, from a scientific standpoint you are extremely right about global warming. In fact, there are many things about global warming that the people on the news and the environmentalists do not tell you. If the polar ice caps DO ever all melt into the ocean, we now have millions of gallons of fresh water in the ocean. Now because of density, fresh water will float on top of salt water. This is where it gets interesting... If fresh water is floating on top of salt water, it begins to cool and insulate the water underneath, really messing up the ocean conveyor belt's warm water currents. If the warm water currents no longer function as well, the heat from the warm water currents will not warm areas of the globe. This will actually COOL the earth up to 10F!
As for what you said about the animals, it is very true. A cow, for example, produces methane (which is one of the most powerful global warming agents). This single cow, does more global warming in a day than a range rover can do in a week! And while we're on that subject, people think the automotive industry is totally at fault for global warming and say we should all take the bus. Well to be honest, cars have restrictions on Nitrous and Sulfuric Oxide emissions and use catalytic converters to help reduce them. The real culprits are the small engines (your gas powered lawn mowers, weed whackers, snowblowers). Those have NO restrictions on them at all and produce some really nasty hydrocarbons.
I could really go on for days with arguments about global warming, but the fact of the matter is, the environmentalists want us to return to the stone age, and abandon all our industry and progress for decades so they can feel better about themselves about a matter of which there is no concrete evidence proving we are the source of. They are fueled by our media, and because it comes on the television, people buy it.

Speaking of the environment, I saw that Exxon-Mobil posted those record profits that we all saw in the news. The sad part is, they still haven't paid any of the fine they received for the spill in the Prince William sound. Although, judging by the denial going around on this site, I suppose it doesn't matter.

Were they emailing you when I spent 6 months campaigning around this area? What's so important about what I'm doing NOW that's worth emailing about? Expression is a risk, I suppose...
Like you mentioned, if someone wants to tear me or anyone apart on here that's fine but offer some PROOF and a name or SOMETHING to put it all together. People make these absurd assumptions about other folks and where they get their ideas/beliefs from and it's just as often funny as it is false.
If anything, blame me for being one of the most fool-heartedly open people on this website. I post all of my rants, raves and foibles on here under the same thing: my name. If someone wants to criticize me for anything stupid it's that I don't change my name after every post to make it look like there's more than one person talking. If I were like some of the folks on here I could post in oh, three, maybe four different names and no one would know the difference!
Oh, and... I thought I'd humor you with "The Gore Effect." Apparently everywhere he goes while campaigning about global warming he's met with rain, hail, snow and record-low temperatures.

Good Evening, Mr. Gibb. I thought I'd write and let you know about one of your fans. I moved to Dearborn from the Chicago suburbs in 1994. I was in my mid 20s then, and your show on the local cable station used to really crack me up. I watched it whenever I remembered to, and really don't remember anything about it except thinking "Who IS this crusty old guy?" ... and an ever-present can of Diet Coke.
About a year ago I Googled you because I was watching something on the local cable station and thought, "I wonder what ever happened to that crusty old Russ Gibb?" Well, It's been a great year. I check your blog every day, along with a few other favorites. And even though I don't know you personally, I want you to know that my life is richer for having you in it. Oh, and I don't think of you as the crusty old guy any more ;-) I guess I've changed a bit over the years!

I think a specific example of people screwing up nature with good intentions in mind is necessary.

I should have said "respected" scientist. The media digs up people with science degrees that say humans the cause global warming. As I stated in my previous post, Exxon Mobil makes $70,000 a minute PROFIT. They have a well oiled counter-global warming machine at work. I see you bought it. Did you know that the last person to be in charge of the environnment for the Bush administration is now WORKING for Exxon-Mobil?

The only information that can be found on this "scientist", Nir Shariv, is that he disagrees with global warming (from TOMMY's post). Gee, is this perhaps the reason he disagrees with it? So little is known of him, we can't even be sure he exists. That sure is a reliable source TOMMY brings to the table. After all, we have a group of people who say that we have never been to the moon. Does this raise an argument that we haven't? I suppose. I find it fascinating that somehow global warming was linked to religion. I have never heard any link between the two until watching Russ' videocast, and reading the comments posted thereafter. As far as BRIAN is concerned, I think he posts some of the more intelligent posts on here. I'm sure that Russ Gibb comes to the conclusion that he is young because he questions things the way he does. The older we get, the more stubborn we are in our opinions. I would much rather read what he has to say then read some of the 4th grade mentality jokes about Artis that others post.

I would like to answer a question asked earlier. Although it may sound funny, or even ridiculous to talk about cows farts contributing to global warming, the reason this is true is very simple. 100 years ago the number of cows in the world numbered (by even generous estimates) in the 100's of thousands. Today, the cow population is at 1.3 BILLION. Does this answer the question about why their methane gas is doing a lot more damage today then it had in the past? Secondly, to the poster whom copy/pasted us Richard Tol's name and credentials from the 3rd result down when you google his name: you may want to read more information on a source before using them to try and back your argument. He does not disagree with global warming, or the fact that excess population of humans (and cows, lol) is causing global warming. He merely disagrees with some of the formulas used to obtain SOME of the information.

It seems to me that Mr."not one scientist disagrees with global warming" started this back and forth banter about global warming. Yet, when people gave him the names of other scientist that do not agree with his position , he changes the debate to big oil companies.The guy is indeed, a "religious zelot" Only he knows the truth and the rest of are heathens. After all he's got Saint Al Gore on his side.

Are my banal thoughts and bourgeois life to blame for the global warming? I would figure this out for myself but, I am far too busy reviewing my stock portfolio and damn - my gas tank is empty again - This Hummer is a bummer when it comes to mileage. Anyway I gotta run - let me know if there is anything I should do about this whole burning up the planet thing -

Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn't exist. And I am not the only one trying to make people open up their eyes and see the truth. But few listen, despite the fact that I was the first Canadian Ph.D. in Climatology and I have an extensive background in climatology, especially the reconstruction of past climates and the impact of climate change on human history and the human condition. Few listen, even though I have a Ph.D, (Doctor of Science) from the University of London, England and was a climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg. For some reason (actually for many), the World is not listening.

I don't think that it is impossible to find a few people (especially percentage wise) that disagree with the fact that people are causing global warming. As someone stated earlier, you can find many people that think we didn't go to the moon. What really surprises me is how scared people are that we are doing so. Lots of denial going around about it. I suppose this is the old "if we don't acknowledge it, it isn't there" theory. How is it that we are using more and more gases, chemicals etc, and the population has doubled in a couple of decades, environmental disasters too many to name, nuclear bombs and plants being misused....and this has absolutely no effect on the environment? I don't think anyone should really need anyone to prove to people that we are warming/ruining the earth to know it as fact. Actually, we don't even need to argue about the "warming" part. All you have to do is look around to see that we are ruining the earth. I guess it gets back to people worrying that somehow if we try to better protect the environment it will effect their lives negatively. I think we can probably do a lot of things that better serve the earth we live on without drastically changing much at all. A little effort by each of us is all.

This is like a prosecutor saying on the first day of trial, “Ladies and gentleman of the jury, you are not here to decide the evidence, nor even to wonder about whether or not the defendant is guilty or innocent, rather the question before your minds should be: ‘Should we hang him or just lock him up for life?’”

I guess I am one of the ignorant fools for believing global warming is happening. Others seem to think just because we can't feel it happening to us right now it can't possibly be true. Has there ever been centuries on earth with emissions like ours to compare it to? Why is it that people who want to save energy or cut emissions are NUTS? Do we really want to continue to give record profits to oil companies? Why not encourage building wind turbines? What does it hurt? Is it because we are so concerned with ourselves and how our immediate future will be affected? To me this is similar to the experience of death- we are scared at the thought of it, unknowing what will happen to us. Are we so scared of the changes that may or may not be occuring due to global warming that we cannot possibly do anything to change it from happening? Even if global warming is a big hoax, why is doing things to save energy frowned upon so much. Recycling is laughed at, vegetarians are made fun of, "tree huggers" are seen as NUTS. There something wrong with our society if people who care about their footprints left behind are NUTS.
